Some Iranians are p.o.'d about how they are depitcted in this HUGE movie that grossed $70 million in its opening weekend in the U.S. (ending March 11).
The movie is based on a novel itself based on the battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C. and depicts Persians battling 300 Spartan warriors as decadent and evil. Iranian critics insist the film goes too far in its depiction of their ancestors.
JAVAD SHAMGHADRI, the cultural adviser to Iranian President MAHMOUD AHMADINEJAD, insists the film is Hollywood's attempt to "humiliate" Iran, a long-time foe.
..."It is a new effort to slander the Iranian people and civilization before world public opinion at a time of increasing American threats against Iran."
IT'S A MOVIE PEOPLE. A MOVIE. Everybody likes to generalize for the sake of simplicity - but I don't think all Iranians are decadent and evil just like I don't think anyone outside of the U.S. should think that all Americans are fat, greedy and supportive of George Bush! Cause we're not and we don't!
