Remember the video and hoopla surrounding the innocent PDA between Richard Gere and Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty?
A judge in Rajasthan had issued an arrest warrant for Gere and a summons for Shetty after deeming the public kisses (on her cheeks) "obscene" but a smarter and wiser court, India's Supreme Court, has suspended the case. Bravo to the Supreme Court.
Is a high-five considered obscene? No? HIGH-FIVEs all around!!!
Coming on the heels of the Richard Gere-Shilpa Shetty arrest warranting (?) PDA - an Indian court has ordered Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai to appear in front of the court next month after a publicity seeking local lawyer accused her of "offending public sensibility" in a recent film.
The problem? Rai's "Dhoom-II" co-star Hrithik Roshan lightly kissed her cheek in a scene. Yes, that's right, lightly kissed her cheek...well line 'em up and shoot 'em down why doncha?!
NOTE TO SELF: Stay...out of...India.
Richard Gere has a warrant out for his arrest in India stemming from his sexual silliness gone bad earlier this month when he hugged and kissed (on the cheek several times) actress Shilpa Shetty during an appearance at an HIV/AIDS event in the strict country.
Judge Dinesh Gupta said that Gere and Shetty "transgressed all limits of vulgarity" and called the TV footage "highly sexually erotic," hence he issued the arrest warrants.
Immediately following the event, groups of angry Indians burned Gere in effigy to protest the incident even though Shetty defended Gere's behavior. Gere faces up to three months in prison if convicted.
Come on people, look at all the guy has done for your country as far as raising HIV/AIDS awareness and shedding light on India - now you want to throw him in jail? Customs, traditions, whatever...this is crap.
