WHY ARE WE FIGHTING FOR THESE PEOPLE?!
I implore you to take a look at these disgusting and incredibly disturbing pictures. What are you looking at? You're looking at a 17-yr-old Kurdish girl named Du'a Khalil Aswad who was stoned for a 1/2 hour until she died. Why? To salvage her family's honor which had supposedly been shamed because Du'a was in love with a teenage boy who is Sunni Muslim and she stayed out all night one night.
My eyes are full of tears thinking of how this girl was hiding for her life - how 8 or 9 men reportedly stormed the home of a Yezidi tribal leader in Bashika - dragged her outside in front of a large crowd - and pummeled her with large stones she finally died. A large crowd watched - a local security force watched - AND NO ONE DID ANYTHING. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU. SHAME ON EVERY FUCKING LAST ONE OF YOU.
Please don't try to tell me that honor killings are rare these days. I call bullshit on that. What's rare, and I'd like to know if it has ever happened, is that bastards responsible for these killings, acid attacks on women & beatings, being brought to justice.
I have never approved of this war but for reasons with my own government - but these last few years have really shown me just how deeply rooted middle eastern problems are - how these civil wars amongst religious groups will never end because nobody wants to put down their fucking guns and swords to live in peace. How can a place ever be peaceful when they think it's OK to beat, throw acid at, behead or kill in any way, women whom the men deem dishonorable.
Of course not everybody in the middle east condones or participates in this behavior but no one intervened either. Let those who disapprove of such behavior and civil war stand up and take control of their country.
I beg to know: WHY ARE WE FIGHTING FOR THESE PEOPLE?! We may want peace and harmony for Iraq and the rest of the middle east - but wanting it more than they do gets us nowhere but home with thousands of dead soldiers and dozens of thousands of amputees, soldiers with brain trauma, burn victims & more.
BRING EVERY SINGLE SOLDIER HOME NOW. Their barbaric acts and thousand(s) year old civil war is NOT OUR FIGHT.
Shame on everyone who watched 17-yr-old Du'a Khalil Aswad die in the streets while being stoned. Shame on a group of people who find honor in such killings. Shame on a society refusing to investigate and prosecute these barbarians. Shame on our President and this administration for sending our mothers, sisters, brothers, fathers, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, future doctors-teachers-laborers - you name them - over to fight such a ridiculous war. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU.
I pray that Du'a Khalil Aswad is at peace. I am so sorry she had to live and die the way she did. You are not forgotten.

This is so heartbreaking. I cried and became infuriated while reading it. The assholes responsible need to be held accountable. The security forces & those in the crowd watching this poor girl be murdered need to be held accountable.

None of you get it do you? We are not fighting for the men who did this we are fighting for this young girl and those who will follow in her footsteps. These countries have only known one way for centuries. Now with the US enetring this conflict we are trying to show the women of Iraq there is a better way. Last year was the first time women could vote freely. This will give them a chance to rise above the male dominated culture that has existed for centuries. Want to know why the Jihadist hate us? We give women equal rights. We allow aldultury to be handled in civil courts instead of the street justice you have witnessed in this article. Women can have thier own thoughts and ideas in our country. And you want the troops to come home!!! How silly. The men will trample on the rights of these girls and women. There are plenty of men there who do not think honor killings and religion v. religion killings are okay and THOSE MEN SHOULD STAND UP. WHY IS IT OUR JOB?
And let's remember the reasons given for going to war in Iraq: It WAS NOT to stop mercy killings and give women the right to vote. It was to KILL Hussein (because of a pre-existing agenda) and to collect or destroy their alleged WMDs (uh, where are they?) & to establish a democratic system.
Hussein is dead - his sons are dead - no WMD's have been found - a democratic voting system has been established. Are we responsible for making sure it "sticks" for the rest of our/their lives? What is so wrong with timetables for withdrawal (or as John Stewart suggested we call them "Glory Goals" - since Bushies are so hung up on terminology) - holding the Iraq government and people accountable for their own country -their own safety - their own freedom and democracy.
Like it or not, that Iraq is in a civil war that we have no business being in the middle of. What would happen if Iraq, Iran, France, any country, came over here and intervened if we were in a civil war?
I hate that argument of, "Fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here." It's crap.
We can't spend all of our time and money fighting wars in every damn country.

Boy that last guy/girl has alot of anger. First off if the Bushies did lie about WMD's and they are so dishonest why didnt Bush put some there so he could say we found them?
And if you are such a history buff do some research France, England, Holland and Germany all played a part in our Civil War with weapons and funding. Also if you just go back to the Democratic War called Vietnam. We never lost a Battle and even after the Republicans came to power and started to take the War North to Hanoi every little peace loving nut started calling Nixon and our troops baby killers. Then when the Donkey aka (jackass) Congress pulled funding and forced our troops home the South Vietnamese Army held off for three years until that same Congress pulled funding for thier Army to fight. The collapse of that country cause millions to be slaughtered in Cambodia as well as S. Vietnam. Now the Donkeys are in charge again and they will pull funding and cause another humiliating lose for our country. Iraq will collapse and war will break out between all Sunni and Shite countries and again millions will die.
In the build up to war when everyone was united the far left wacko's said we would have tens of thousands dead in the first weeks, they were wrong. Now they are counting every death like it is gold boullion for there cause. 3500 killed in 5 years. When has there ever been a conflict of this magnitude with so few deaths. And yes everyone is a terrible waste of life if we fail.But yet the Jackasses insist Bush and his administration is not worried about lose of life. I would of hated to see these so called American Patriots in charge the day after the Battle of Tarawa where 8000 Marines died in the first hours or Gettyburgs where tens of thousands died for a cause they believed in. These gutless wonders would have surrendered to the South and slavery would have went on. They would have surrendered to the Axis powers in WWII and let Hitler continue in his madness.
Why do we have to stand up and fight these conflicts? Because our fore-fathers put it in the Declaration of Independence. All men are created equal, All people deserve the right to the persuit of happiness. It was not this girls fault for being born in a shit country. It was not her fault that knowone will stand up for her, just as know one stood up for Christ when he was being tortured and killed. The sheep need to be lead to freedom. They need to be taught there is a better way. It is easy to judge them by our standards, but they dont know better. The average Iraqi only know the lies told to them by thier teachers and government. Some day all will have the same ideal of freedom of speech, and be free to voice them.
I only hope soon the world can get away from there prejudicies and stop the killing of the children of Darfor. But according to this last post why should we help anyone but ourselves?

honor killings happen all over the word by the way, NOT just in iraq. yes, they even happen in the united states.
